We believe
Christian Faith opens the door to a new relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit we become members of God's family.
In our worship each week people are invited to share thier testimony of God's grace in thier lives as we seek to encourage eachother.
We affirm that the bible is God's word, and that God continues to speak in dynamic and personal ways as we encounter the Word within the word, Jesus Christ. We celebrate the gift of his life, death and resurrection.
The gospel of John describes the way God comes among us in and through Jesus Christ.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1 Vs 1-5 and Vs 14
We believe that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life.
Jesus opens the way to God through his death on a cross shouldering our guilt, embracing our shame and offering his life in love for us. Jesus is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world
Jesus shows us the truth about God, for the light of the glory of God shines through him. In other words 'God is like Christ and in God there is nothing unlike Christ
Jesus has come that everyone may have life and life in all of its fullness. On the first Easter Sunday, his disciples, both women and men, found his tomb was empty and discovered he is the resurrection and the life for God had raised him from death.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, renewed the two great commands to live God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and to live our neighbour as ourselves. This is the foundation of an ethical Christian lifestyle.
We affirm that in the beginning God called the universe into being and clothes our small blue planet with life. We welcome all that science shows us about the wonder of God's creation and we actively seek to care for the earth in the light of climate change. We have for example installed solar panels on our roof.
We affirm the dignity of every human being as everyone is created in the image of God. Therefore we are passionately concerned with questions of justice, inclusion and well being of people here and overseas. We seek to welcome the stranger and the refugee. Jesus said 'I was a stranger and you welcomed me in.'
Jesus called women and men to follow him. This requires people to turn away from selfishness and sin to embrace new lives of live and obedience to Christ the servant King who modelled a new way of living by washing his friends feet.
We believe it's essential to share the gospel, the good news of Jesus with our neighbours and do this in public ways for example through the Good Friday walk of witness in our town centre every year.
We also believe in the gentleness of Jesus who called his disciples to be with him. Following him is all about relationships. Therefore, unlike some high pressure churches, we seek to be a church in which there is no pressure, simply an invitation, much kindness and encouragement to meet Jesus and follow him.
We believe in the Christian Church and that all who confess with thier lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in thier hearts that God raised him from death are members of this Church.
We believe Christian unity is found through real relationships and we actively seek to work with neighbouring churches in our town who believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Christian baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is best expressed through the immersion of people who confess their faith in Jesus Christ.
We believe Christian churches are formed wherever people gather about the word of God to 'walk together and watch over one another in love'. Every year we renew our promise to do this at our covenant service. Every month we also share bread and wine together as a family of God's people as a good and essential way for us to remember the sacrifice of Jesus in a 'communion' meal.
We believe that both women and men share in every sphere of Christian ministry, remembering that Mary Magdalene became the first person to share the good news that Jesus is alive with the other disciples.
We recognise many factors may prevent people from participating in the life of a church and actively seek to overcome these things so that everyone has the freedom to share thier gifts. Currently we are engaged in Project Violet that is seeking to encourage churches to be more open and inclusive of women in the church.
Like all Baptist Churches in the Baptist family of Churches in the United Kingdom weare hiers to the struggle for religious freedom and that it is the members of a church gathered together who have the freedom and responsibility to listen and discern together how to give expression to the good news of Jesus in thier life and witness.. Therefore we value our membership of this family through our membership of the Baptist Union and the Yorkshire Baptist Association.
